How to Fit Exercise Into Your Hectic Daily Schedule

So we all hear that exercise is good for us, but how much exercise do you actually achieve each day?  For some, going to the gym is a part of the daily routine, but for many others this is not the case.  In the midst of a hectic schedule, finding a few extra minutes to take care of your body might seem nearly impossible.  But what if exercise could fit oh, so nicely, into your day?  The good news is that it can!

First, we must recognize that daily exercise, in some form or another, is essential to maintain good health.  The body is made to be tried and tested, and everybody benefits from a good physical challenge.  Also, quite importantly, we are more alert and much more able to perform efficiently when the body is in good condition.  That said, not having enough time for exercise simply does not cut it!

Now, the question is how to be clever enough to trick your body into an exercise routine, even in spite of our hectic lifestyles.

Before Work

Let’s begin with the morning wake-up.  Hopefully you have already gotten enough sleep during the night so that you are ready to start another day.  This more than helps with physical and mental preparation.  Even as you are getting out of bed, be sure to stretch this way and that, in order to give your muscles their wake-up call.  Just a few moments (and a little longer if possible) will make a significant difference in how you feel throughout the day.  To get your blood flowing through your muscles is important for digestion.

With this in mind, do make sure to eat a healthy and hearty breakfast, consisting of protein, good fats, and some carbs.  Truly, a fresh start is the way to go!

During Work

Once you are out the door, the day has officially begun and you are ready for business.  In spite of many meetings and details to come, you can still find time to squeeze in some exercise.  Depending on your situation and the weather, ride your bicycle to work, or at least park your car toward the back of the parking lot.  This way you will have a couple more minutes to get that blood pumping before entering the office.

Especially if you work or study on a large campus, take a twenty minute walk around the block at lunch-time, and choose to walk from place to place instead of using your car for transportation.  It will really only take a few minutes longer to arrive at your destination, and the investment will pay off.  All in all, your heart will enjoy the extra exercise.

After Work

When the day is done and you are back home, there are still opportunities to sneak some exercises into your routine.  After dinner, consider going for a walk to the park or taking a bike ride, or even just play an active game with the kids in your back yard.  Make sure that whatever form of exercise you choose is something you enjoy doing, and it won’t feel like work.

Then before going to bed, give yourself another quick round of stretches, and maybe even some pushups or situps.  These are simple exercises that require no more than you and a little floor space.

All in all, a few simple exercises can serve to brighten your day, as you feel good throughout your endeavors.  Once you see the opportunities to fit exercise into your current schedule, you just might want to go a little further and make time for more.
