How to Get Beachy, Tousled Hair Naturally Without Going to the Beach

Tousled summer locks are popular and fashionable because they look carefree, healthy and sexy.  The style doesn’t look as though you’ve worked too hard on your hair, even though it does take a little work to get your locks to look beachy.  Depending on what tools you have at home, it’s easy to achieve glossy waves without resorting to a professional hairdresser.

One method to get tousled waves is to use Velcro rollers on dry hair.  Simply roll medium-sized rollers half way up your head, wait for 15 minutes or more (depending on how stubborn your hair usually is), and then spray your hair with a light mist of hairspray BEFORE removing the rollers.  The result will be large, loose curls.

If your tresses are very fine, you may need to use a curling iron.  Using a curling iron with a large barrel size, simply wrap your locks up in the iron, but not all the way to the scalp.  You want just the lower half of your hair to have tousled waves, to avoid that ‘Eighties Perm’ look!

Another option is to simply braid your hair while it’s still wet.  Braid from ear-level as far to the end as you can get.  Spray on a little leave-in conditioner to add softness and to condition while you dry – the moisture will be locked into the braid as it dries naturally.  Once dry, your tresses will be naturally wavy – no heat required!  You can dry your braids with a hairdryer if you’re in a rush, although his will mean they won’t have as much gloss or shine to them (drying with heat roughs up the cuticle).

While it’s not absolutely necessary, you may want to add volume to your hair with the help of a “beach” or “surf” hair gel.  Almost every brand carries some kind of beachy product that will add volume and help you achieve the look you’re after.

One of these methods will work for you!  All you need is shoulder-length hair or longer to pull off beachy waves, no matter what time of year it is.
