How to Keep Your New Year’s Weight Loss Resolution

Weight loss is one of the most common resolutions you can make on New Year’s Eve.  People would rather lose weight than earn more money, learn a new skill or even grow closer in their relationships.

Chances are you’ve decided that to join in on the tradition.  In the first few weeks after the holidays, sticking to the resolution seems quite easy, and you are in the right mindset to reach your weight loss goals.  You’re feeling great, you’re on top of the world, and you are hopeful you can finally fit into those size zero jeans.

Then something happens near the end of January that brings the determination to a halt.

One of the biggest killers of fabulous, goal-setting resolutions is boredom.  After about a month, you feel as though you’ve tapped out your taste buds on the new healthy foods you’ve been eating, and your exercise has become boring.  The motivation just isn’t there, you no longer have to fit into that slinky dress every Friday night for Christmas and New Years’ parties, and you could care less about your love handles or saddlebags.

However, you can do a few techniques to keep on track with your weight loss goals.  First, start looking for new ways to make your food.  Find healthy recipes and try things that you’ve never tasted before.  Eating healthy doesn’t only mean eating salads with no dressing.  You can find plenty of options that will help you with your weight loss.  Try balsamic vinaigrette on your salads.  If you love eating lasagna, find a low-fat option.  Eat rich, healthy dark chocolate instead of milk.  Switch out your old foods for healthier versions, without feeling as if you’re giving up everything you once cherished.

Exercising doesn’t have to be boring either.  If you’ve been using the treadmill, switch to an elliptical or get outside to walk.  Start lifting weights or go swimming, both of which can help with weight loss.  Staying motivated to reach your weight loss goals is easy when you change your routines and keep yourself on your toes.
