How to Lose Weight by Eating Mindfully

If you are hoping to reach your weight loss goals, you already know that you need to be mindful of the types of things that you eat, as well as the portions.  Even though most people know this, they have trouble when it comes to the practical application of eating the right amounts.  Eating too much, even if you exercise dutifully, will slow the weight loss process.

One tip for eating better is to watch what you buy, as well as how much you buy.  When you visit the large discount stores and buy snacks in bulk, of course you are going to be saving money, so that’s good, right?  Wrong!  When you have more food available, you are also likely going to eat more of it over the same amount of time.  Go to the store with a set shopping list, so you have a plan, and resist any temptations.

Another thing that you will want to avoid is eating in front of the screen if you expect weight loss to occur.  When you eat in front of the TV or computer monitor, you will eat more than you realize.  Eating in the kitchen or dining room all the time, even when you snack, will help you eat less and let you achieve your weight loss faster.  If you’re really ambitious, stand while you snack or eat meals so you’re less tempted to eat more.

You should also consider how much time you are spending at the table, particularly if you eat out at restaurants a lot.  If you spend a lot of time talking with family or friends, you are going to be eating a lot more, even without realizing it. You might have only had a small portion on your plate, but the little bits of snacking that you do from the serving dishes and the extra beverages you consume are going to be rough on your weight loss goals.
