How to Make Cheap Homemade Weights to Exercise At Home

Not everyone can afford to have an in-home gym.  In fact, many people cannot afford (or do not have the room for) even a simple weight bench and weights.  Don’t let this stop you though, there are some surprisingly simple ways that you can make homemade weights for weight training and building strength.

One of the best ways to exercise at home is by using two empty gallon milk jugs as free weights.  Fill these with water and use them as you would any other weights.  You can also add other items to your milk jugs if you’re worried about leakages, such as marbles, sand and coins.

Using canned vegetables as weights to exercise and build muscle works just as well.  This way you can workout while you cook!  Large cans of vegetables or soup have quite a bit of weight to them, and they can work great in an improvised home exercise routine.

A final option is to by a couple of cheap, small sandbags (the kind commonly sold at art stores) and strap them to your arms or legs as you clean the house.  You’ll burn far more calories as you’ll have much more weight to move as you clean.  You’ll be surprised at how quickly you’ll see toning results with this method!

While you will not reach bodybuilder status using gallons of water or bags of flour as weights, lightweight exercise tools can help you tone up, burn a good number of calories and get into better shape.  It’s certainly a better option than not exercising at all, and it’s extremely affordable for any household.
