How to Make Homemade Bath Salts

Bath salts offer a relaxing bathing experience, calming frazzled nerves and helping you to relax at the end of a long and stressful day.  Purchasing bath salts at the bathroom store or drugstore can be expensive, and there are many products that really aren’t made from all natural ingredients, despite their lofty claims.  However, you can easily make your own homemade bath salts at home for a fraction of the cost.

Ingredients:

You will need:

2 cups of Epsom salt or Dead Sea salt

2 tablespoons of baking soda

10 to 12 drops of essential oil

Food coloring (optional)

Large glass mixing bowl

Do not use table salt, as this will dry your skin out and cause irritation.  Feel free to use a cup of Epsom salt and a cup of Dead Sea salt.

In your bowl, combine your salt with two tablespoons of baking soda for skin softening.  Now, add 10 to 12 drops of essential oil – you can use almost any type of oil that appeals to you when making your bath salts.  You’ll find that eucalyptus is a great option for a relaxing scent, though lavender is also very popular.  Vanilla and seasonal scents are available, as well.

If you want your bath salts to be colored, just add a bit of food coloring and mix it in well.

Stir the mixture well in your bowl; generally speaking, about two minutes of stirring should be enough.  Once you have stirred your bath salts, simply add the mixture to your desired container.  You can use decorative jars and bottles, which make great gifts for your family and friends.
