How to Stay Healthy During Menopause

The most important mental and physical wellness tip for a woman entering menopause is to remember that the process may be inevitable, but the most common symptoms are not “mandatory.”  For example, many women who have spent their lives keeping in the very best of health get frustrated by the idea that menopause is going to come with a very large weight gain.  This is a fallacy that leads to undue stress and upset because menopause doesn’t have to mean that you are going to put on weight.

Instead, if you are already in good health, you can just continue to exercise as regularly as you always have, eat a good diet full of fruits and vegetables, and find ways to incorporate just a bit more physical fitness into your daily life.  This is because menopause does tend to slow down the metabolism, which is primarily the cause of the weight gain.  Someone who pre-empts this by bumping up their activity level should never experience even a single pound of weight gain!

Another issue that many women dread during menopause is the drop in their estrogen levels.  This leads to both physical and mental health symptoms because it is an issue that impacts the sex drive.

However, a waning sex drive is not an inevitability with menopause and you can do many things to ensure that the side effects of these natural changes do not have any negative impact on your life.  There are prescription and nonprescription medications, exercises, and foods that will all improve the issue.  See your doctor for an individual health plan to safely – and healthily – guide you through the menopause.
