Top 10 Best Places to Meet a New Partner

Looking for love?  Most of us are.  Although this is a sad, desperate truth of the world we live in, it is good news for those actually trying to wrangle in a lover.  Since so many singles are looking for a partner, there are plenty of people available.

Here are the best places to meet a new partner, for better or worse.

10. Gym

The gym is a filter for the superficial.  Fit people are usually better looking than the average person.  However, there are a few drawbacks.

First, there is a lot of competition at the gym.  You are never the biggest guy or slimmest girl at the gym.  Second, a lot of people at the gym may be good looking, but they are probably looking for good looking people as well.  Not that this is a bad thing in and of itself however, it does tend to bring together a superficial or self-centered crowd.  Third, people are sweaty, smelly and usually have weird looks on their faces, so it can be hard to spit game.

9. School or College

School makes it onto this list because you are likely to find people with similar interests.  If you are currently in school then students in your major are a great place to start.  The majority of relationships start in school, so it’s a great place to find that new love.

8. Party

Parties trump schools because it’s easier to meet someone there.  Any social event with alcohol lowers inhibitions, and are good places to look for a partner.  The drawback is that the partner you find will probably end up being a short term thing.  If you’re looking for a quick fling, parties are the way to go.

7. Internet

From eHarmony to Facebook, the Internet is the most efficient way to snag a date.  The drawbacks are misleading photos, obsessive weirdos and the occasional stalker.

6. Market

I have found that people who do their own food shopping are more stable than the rest of the population.  They probably know how to cook, are financially responsible and are overall respectable.  The problem is that there tends to be a lot of married people that go grocery shopping versus singles.

5. Bar

The bar is the best and worst place to find a new partner, so it is right in the middle of our list.  The bar is the watering hole for singles, so you are bound to find someone who is looking for a partner.  The problem is the same as parties, sifting through all the drunks and losers for a suitable person is very difficult to do.

4. Bookstore

I love the bookstore because it breeds intelligence. Most people that go to the bookstore at least know how to read, which is better than half the dates I go on.

The only problem with the bookstore is that a lot of women tend to be shy or pretentious. I guess it’s because they are looking to get educated on a particular subject, not hit on by a guy pretending to read Aristotle’s Rhetoric (if you’ve read Rhetoric, hopefully you get the subtle humor in that joke).

3. Coffee Shop

More and more artistic people spend time in coffee shops.  They are also interesting people to connect with on an intellectual and creative level.  Coffee shop patrons are surprisingly open to conversations and meeting new people.  It is a low-pressure way to find a good partner.

2. Church or Other Religious Establishment

This would be number one on the list if everyone was religious.  Non-religious people move on to number one.  At church, you are likely to find a stable partner with similar life goals as you.  Compatibility is a sign of a successful relationship, and if you are able to connect on a spiritual level, then you are more likely to have a lasting relationship.

1. Through Friends

Referrals are the best sales technique because they are effective and trustworthy.  The same goes for dating.  Meeting people through friends ensures that your partner is at least sane and has similar interests.  Also, for the most part, your friends know who you are compatible with better than you do, and are looking out for your best interests.
