What Natural Remedies Exist for Treating Diaper Rash?

Diaper rash is definitely no fun – for you or for your little one.  However, it is a certain fact of life that your baby will have diaper rash at some point in his or her young life.  If you want to avoid costly, potentially harmful medical treatments and a trip to the doctor, there are some natural remedies for diaper rash that can work well.

One of the simplest natural remedies for diaper rash is to use cornstarch in the diaper.  This prevents excess moisture from developing, and will also help to soothe the rash.  Of course, baby powder can also be used.

For real relief of a rash, you can mix oatmeal and baking soda together in a bath, or even apply it directly to the skin.  Another option is to mix a cup of water with a drop of baby shampoo and a pinch of baking soda and salt.  Soak paper towels in this mixture and use them instead of baby wipes to clean your little one.

One option that you might need to look at is changing the baby’s diaper more often.  Usually, diaper rash is caused by excess moisture in the diaper.  This irritates the skin and results in a rash.  Changing the diaper more frequently will help to keep that tender bottom dry and healthy.

You can also use petroleum jelly to treat diaper rash, which is probably the simplest and cheapest option.  Simply put a light coating of it on the affected areas after changing the diaper and you should see results in as little as a few days.
