Why Eating Organic Vegetables Benefits Your Health

More and more people are choosing to buy organic food.  Organic food offers numerous health benefits, but you might actually find that some vegetables are better bought organic than others.

If you enjoy celery, then you should certainly buy organic celery.  In scientific sampling of this food, almost 95% of all celery was found to contain high levels of pesticides.  Organic celery does not have this problem.

Another vegetable that you should buy organic is spinach.  This food is high in iron and many other essential elements, but commercially grown spinach can contain a very high amount of pesticide, which can be extremely harmful, especially for young children.

Bell peppers, a common food found in an amazing diversity of dishes, should also be bought organic.  This food can contain an enormous number of pesticides, even more than celery.  Green beans should also be purchased organic, as should collard greens, lettuce, potatoes and summer squash.  Each of these food items is heavily sprayed with chemical pesticides, which can be difficult to remove.

Many food items have been found to contain pesticide within the food, not just on the skin.  Washing your food before preparing it for the table will not help here.  For instance, lettuce can easily absorb pesticides because of its structure.  Celery has no protective skin at all, so any pesticides that are sprayed here enter directly to the vegetable, just as moisturizer soaks into human skin.

Spinach alone has been found to contain almost fifty different pesticides within the plant, so in all these cases, going organic will greatly benefit your health in the long run. Try shopping at your local farmer’s market, or in any store that has an organic produce section.
