How to Finance a Trip to the Dentist

When you just need a check up, the prices at the dentist can seem very high. When you need an emergency root canal, they seem downright sadistic. A dentist is sometimes not an option, but a necessity. With more and more people struggling to get the money for routine doctor’s visits, dentist appointments are oftentimes foregone. Unfortunately, some of the most deadly diseases such as heart disease start with bad teeth. There are ways that you can afford a trip to the dentist.

Check for a dentist who works on a sliding scale. Such dentists base their prices on the patient’s ability to pay. They sometimes work for public health services. This won’t be one of the pain-free visits to the dentist that are advertised in most phone books these days. The techniques will be basic and you’ll be given local anesthesia only. Still, your health sometimes requires a bit of discomfort and these dentists are just as good as any independent practitioner.

You may want to see if your dentist allows financing for extensive work. If you need your wisdom teeth pulled, for instance, it may be worth it to go to a dentist who uses general anesthesia and who is a qualified oral surgeon. Your credit will play part in your getting financing, unfair as that may seem. If you cannot get these services, see if you can find a dentist that will work out a payment plan with you individually. Most often, however, a visit to the dentist, even with a couple of fillings, doesn’t cost that much compared to a doctor’s visit, so make the most of any savings you can find and remember – it’s only once a year.
