How to Make a Spicy Southwestern Taco Salad

A taco salad is a fast, tasty and surprisingly healthy meal that everyone in your family is going to love.  If you enjoy tacos and Mexican food, then this is a healthy alternative!

You will need:

1 tablespoon of oil, 1 medium onion chopped, 1 pound of ground beef, iceberg lettuce, 2 large diced tomatoes, 1 cup of shredded cheese (Monterey Jack or cheddar), a sliced avocado, tortilla chips or broken taco shells, and 1 package of spicy taco seasoning.  Some choose to add kidney beans to their salad, but this is optional.

Steps:

Brown the grown beef into a pan, making sure to crumble it as you cook.  When it is finished, drain the excess fat.

Stir in the spicy taco seasoning and a small amount of water, adding just enough to moisten  it so that the seasoning coats the meat thoroughly.  Add the seasoned beef to the lettuce, tomatoes, and onions and toss it to mix.

Keep the sliced avocado, tortilla chips and shredded cheese separate so that you can add them to the top of the salad after serving.  You might even want to add some sour cream to the table so people can add it to their salad if they wish.

When you are serving the taco salad as your main meal, another nice idea is to have some chips and salsa to go along with it.

Taco salad is a great and fun meal that your entire family will love.  It is healthier than many other options, with plenty of flavors and zest!
