How to Make Sweet and Sour Shrimp at Home

Sweet and sour shrimp is a tasty Asian cuisine dish, and perfect for a family meal or party.  It’s simple and easy to make, so there’s no need to feel stressed before you begin to prepare the dish.  If you love Chinese food, get stuck into this tasty dish!

You will need:

Half an onion, salt, two tablespoons of granulated sugar, a quarter of a fresh pineapple and two tablespoons of peanut oil.  You’ll also need a pound of medium shrimp, a quarter cup of white vinegar, a third cup of ketchup, half a green pepper and half a cup of plum sauce.

Steps:

To begin making your sweet and sour shrimp, first cut the pineapple into small chunks.  You need to save about a quarter cup of the juice for later.  Cut the bell pepper and onion into small chunks.  Next, you will need to peel and de-vein your shrimp – although this isn’t the most appetizing part, it’s much better than eating it!  You can now butterfly the shrimp and set it aside.

For sweet and sour shrimp, you now need to mix your sugar, ketchup, vinegar and plum sauce in a small pot.  Heat on low heat until the sugar is dissolved.  Stir it frequently to avoid scorching.

Next, you need to stir the pineapple sauce into the pot.  If the sauce is too thick to pour easily, add a bit of water.  Heat a large skillet or wok over high heat.  It’s time to add the peanut oil and stir-fry the onions and peppers.  Stir in the shrimp and season it with salt.  Cook until the shrimp starts to turn pink.

It’s now time to add the pineapple and half of your sauce.  Stir the sweet and sour shrimp mixture together, and serve the sweet and sour shrimp immediately.
