How to Make Chicken Chow Mein at Home

If you love Asian food, making chicken chow mein at home can be easy with the right recipe.  The instructions here will help you make this delightful Chinese cuisine dish in your own kitchen, without the hassle and fuss that you might expect.

You will need:

Three minced garlic cloves, as well as three small onions (peeled and sliced).  In addition, you will need one and a half pounds of chicken breast cut into thin slices.  You also need three tablespoons of coriander, two ribs of celery (sliced thin), three quarters of a pound of button mushrooms (sliced thin) and three tablespoons of peanut oil.  Soy sauce, cilantro, sesame seeds, bean sprouts, bamboo shoots, onions and chicken broth are also on your list.

Steps:

To start making your chicken chow mein, begin by cooking your noodles.  Add a small amount of peanut oil to the cooked noodles so they don’t stick.  Next, heat a skillet or wok over medium high heat and add the peanut oil.  Add the garlic and cook it until it turns golden.

Next, add the chicken and stir continuously until it is cooked.  If you prefer, you can add bamboo shoots at this point.

You now need to add the mushrooms and celery, then cook for about three minutes.  Add two cups of chicken broth and bring it to a boil.  To make chicken chow mein, you now need to cover the pan and reduce the heat to medium, cooking for seven minutes.

Add the onion next, and cook for two more minutes.  Now you can stir in the bean sprouts.  Add soy sauce and the noodles and stir thoroughly.  Garnish your chicken chow mein with sesame seeds and cilantro.

If you really want to go the extra mile, use chopsticks to eat your dish and serve miso soup as an appetizer.
