How to Make a Tangy Chinese Chicken Salad at Home

Salad tastes great, but can easily get boring.  If you love Chinese food and want to have a tasty salad that is a bit different from the norm, you might want to try a tangy Chinese chicken salad.

The key to making a great tangy Chinese chicken salad is the sauce.  Don’t buy one from the grocery store – make your own!  The sauce is quite easy to make with just 3 tablespoons of Hoisin sauce, 2 teaspoons of brown sugar, ¾ teaspoons of chili paste, 2 tablespoons of creamy peanut butter, 1 teaspoon of grated ginger, 1 tablespoon of sesame oil and 3 tablespoons of rice wine vinegar.  Take all of these ingredients and whisk them together.

You also need to have a pound of boneless, skinless chicken breast, grilled or broiled, and cut into slices as soon as it is cool.  You can prepare the chicken well ahead of time if you wish.

Add the chicken to a salad bowl that has 4 cups of romaine lettuce, a handful of chopped green onions and 2 cups of shredded carrots.  Mix in ¼ cup of fresh cilantro as well.  Toss the sauce you made into the salad and mix it thoroughly so that the salad is completely coated.  You may want to add some crispy noodles, such as those from La Choy, over the top of the salad to give it a bit of crunch.

As you can see, it is very easy to make your own tangy Chinese chicken salad, and it doesn’t take much time.  It tastes great and is much more exotic than a plain old house salad!
