How to Make Homemade Pancake Syrup

Probably the second most frustrating thing to me is making a batch of beautiful pancakes, sitting down to eat and realizing you forgot the syrup.  Then you check in your fridge and curse.  You frantically search through the pantry hoping some previous drunken night you misplaced the syrup in there.  No luck.

Well since this happened to me so many times, I decided to create a substitute using ingredients I already had to hand.  I discovered I could make a great tasting syrup that is quicker to make than going to the grocery store.

Oh, and by the way, the number one most frustrating thing is pouring a bowl of cereal and finding an empty milk carton in the fridge.  (But unless you happen have a cow nearby, it’s pretty difficult to make homemade milk.)

Ingredients for Homemade Pancake Syrup:

1 cup white sugar

1 cup brown sugar

1 cup water

(Optional) Maple Flavoring or Vanilla Flavoring

Directions:

Step 1: Mix everything together in a pot.

Step 2: Set your heat to medium and constantly stir the mixture.

Step 3: Wait for the syrup to boil, then shut off the heat and continue stirring.

Step 4: Pour over pancakes or waffles and enjoy!

Yes, homemade syrup is that simple. There are also less additives than supermarket brand syrup.  Try this recipe and you’ll find yourself rarely buying the fake maple syrup sold in stores.

To get more of a ‘mapely’ taste, you should add a quarter cup of brown sugar.  I like a lot of vanilla flavoring, especially mixed with banana pancakes and powdered sugar.  Yum!
