How to Make Cadbury Eggs for Easter

Rather than relying on expensive store-bought goodies from candy stores this Easter, you might want to try to make some on your own.  One of the most popular types of Easter candy is the famous Cadbury Egg.  If you have the right ingredients, you can make them right in your kitchen!

Ingredients:

3 cups of powdered sugar

1 cup of light corn syrup

¼ teaspoon of salt

1 teaspoon of vanilla extract

¼ cup of soft butter

Yellow and red food coloring

2 tablespoons of shortening

12-ounce bag of chocolate chips

Steps:

Place the salt, butter, vanilla and corn syrup into a large bowl.  Use an electric mixer to mix it together.  Once the mixture is ready, add a cup of the powdered sugar and mix it by hand.  After it is thoroughly mixed, add the second cup of sugar.  Repeat and add the third.

Divide the dough into 2 piles and put each into a bowl.  One pile should have 2/3 of the dough.  On the smaller pile, add 4 drops of yellow food coloring and 2 drops of red.  Mix it thoroughly with your hands until orange.  Cover both bowls, the white and the orange dough, and refrigerate for 2 hours.

Making the Centers

Next, roll the orange dough into small balls and the white dough into balls that are twice the size of the orange ones.  Wrap the white dough around the orange balls and make them into egg shapes with your hands.  This is the center of the Cadbury Egg.

Lightly grease a cookie sheet and place the Cadbury Egg centers into the refrigerator for 3 to 4 hours.

Coat the Eggs

Next, put the shortening and chocolate chips into a plastic bowl and microwave it for one minute on high.  Stir, and microwave for another minute.  Take the Cadbury Egg shapes out of the fridge and dip them into the chocolate.  Place them on wax paper, refrigerate for another hour or 2, and repeat the process of dipping them into chocolate.
