How to Make Old Fashioned Vegetable Beef Stew in Your Crockpot

There is nothing quite like coming in from the cold and having a large bowl of hot beef stew ready and waiting for you.  If you enjoy the taste of old fashioned beef stew, but you don’t have the time to prepare it using the old fashioned methods, you are in luck.  Using a Crockpot is a great way to make your stew.

First, gather the ingredients that you will need for your Crockpot meal.  There are quite a few, so check your cupboard before you start and head to the grocery store to get anything that you are missing.

You will need:

2 tablespoons of vegetable oil, a teaspoon of garlic powder, ¾ cup flour, and 2 pounds of stew beef. You also need 1 onion cut into quarters, 5 cut carrots, 5 cut potatoes, and 2 bay leaves, 2 cups of beef broth, 1 teaspoon of salt, 1 teaspoon of sugar, 1 tablespoon of lemon juice (fresh or from a container), ½ teaspoon of pepper, and 1 teaspoon of Worcestershire sauce.

Steps:

Put the flour and the garlic powder into a plastic freezer bag along with the beef and coat it thoroughly.

Take the beef and brown it in a hot skillet with the vegetable oil.

Take the rest of the ingredients, along with the beef, and put them all into the Crockpot.

Cook the stew in the Crockpot for 8 to 9 hours. Make sure that the vegetables are tender before serving.

When the Crockpot stew is about half an hour from being ready to serve, add a mixture of a ½ cup of cold water and a ¼ cup of flour beaten together to thicken it.
