How to Keep Your Eyes Healthy

You can have healthy vision when you eat right, have good hygiene, and protect your eyes properly. With the right level of care, you can maintain good eyesight now and in the future.

Get an Annual Exam

Even if you do not wear glasses or contact lenses, you should visit an eye doctor once every year. Serious eye conditions can develop over time, such as macular degeneration, glaucoma and blindness. These can be treated if caught early enough. Your eyes need to be cared for properly, so you should be sure to get an extensive exam as often as you can afford to.

Eat the Right Foods

Eye doctors recommend that you eat carrots, collard greens, spinach, tuna, and salmon in order to improve and protect your eyes. The vitamins and minerals that are contained in these specific foods prevent the onset of major diseases, including many that can cause eventual deterioration of your eyes.

Protect Your Eyes

It is important that you always wear eye protection whenever you are outside, whether it is on the beach or while you are engaged in sports. Your eyes are very delicate and need to be shielded from harmful UV rays and objects. Sunglasses and goggles help you prevent unnecessary sun-related UV damage.

Clean Your Hands

You should never touch or rub your eyes without washing your hands first. Millions of germs live on your hands and placing them near your eyes can cause an infection or inflammation.
