How to Make Perfect French Toast Every Time

I like to cook using the KISS rule: Keep It Simple, Stupid.  Simple recipes bring out the flavors of the main ingredients.  The point of adding extra flavors should always be to accent the main dish.  This is especially true for French Toast, whether you make it yourself or order it at a breakfast restaurant.

People tend to complicate French toast, but it’s a very simple and cheap meal.  All you do is soak bread in an egg mixture, cook, and enjoy.

Ingredients:

2 slices of day old bread/ toast
2 eggs
¼ cup whole milk or cream
4 tablespoons sugar
Pinch of cinnamon and/or 1 tsp vanilla
Powdered sugar and/or honey
Butter

Directions:

Step 1: Mix the eggs, milk, sugar and cinnamon/ vanilla.

Step 2: Heat a pan to medium and add a teaspoon of butter.

Step 3: Dip the bread in the mixture and place into the pan.

Step 4: Cook for 2-3 minutes until the bottom becomes crispy and flip.  Cook the other side for 2-3 minutes.

Step 5: Place toast on a plate and sprinkle with powdered sugar.  Drizzle with honey.

Step 6: Enjoy your perfect french toast.

You can easily add more ingredients to kick up the flavor.  Fruits are always a good addition:  bananas, raisins, blueberries, strawberries.  Just cut them up and add to the dip.  Some people add different types of juices to the mix: pineapple, orange, even lime.  Feel free to adjust and experiment with the ingredients to find a French toast recipe you enjoy.

Quick Tip: I usually use old bread as it does not soak up too much liquid. Fresh bread is fluffy and can turn mushy if you cook it too quickly.
