3 Simple Tips For the Perfect Bridal Shower Snacks

If you’re planning a bridal shower, it’s an opportunity to bring together friends in a cozy and celebratory environment.  Food plays a big role in setting the right mood and tone for any event, and that’s no different when it comes to bridal showers.

The key to planning the perfect appetizers and food options at a bridal shower is simple: keep it simple, keep it fun and keep it classy.   Here’s a quick look at each of these and how to apply it to your bridal shower.

Keep it Simple

When you send out bridal shower invitations, no one’s expecting a five-course meal and exorbitant desserts.  What they are expecting is cute appetizers, fancy little snacks and some celebratory drinks (perhaps champagne for those who’re able to have alcohol, and sparkling apple cider for those who can’t).

While it’s fun to let your imagination run amok planning 20 different hors d’oeuvres, it’s important in terms of time and budget to keep it simple.  Pick appetizers that can be made a day or two in advance.  Don’t over-plan.  Focus on doing three or four different appetizers, and doing them really well.

A good spread might include: asparagus wraps, phyllo bites (with spinach or pate filling), deviled eggs and bruschetta.  Make sure that you have at least one or two options that are free of eggs and dairy, in case your friends have any food sensitivities.

If you think there is likely to be at least one pregnant friend at the event, non-alcoholic drink options are a must.  If you’re serving champagne (which is a great idea), you’ll want to find a bubbly non-alcoholic drink to offer to everyone else.  Sparking apple juice makes a great substitute, and it allows the non-drinkers to feel included in the celebratory toast.

Keep it Fun

A bridal shower is an event where you celebrate something new.  Why not apply that logic to the appetizers you serve?  Be inventive and add an interesting twist to your food options.

Sometimes, the simplest appetizers are the most fun.  If you’re planning a summer event, you can try this one: cube sections of cantaloupe into one-inch squares.  Wrap each in a small slice of prosciutto ham, and secure with a skewer or toothpick.  The pairing is unique, but the combination of mellow sweetness and smokey, rich meat is exciting and fun.

Keep it Classy

Where possible, dress up the food to look fancy and decadent.  It doesn’t take a master chef to make beautiful looking platters.  Think about a high-contrast garnish to put onto the snacks and the trays — a sprig of parsley on top of little pastry puffs, or a handful of cranberries tossed onto the tray next to a cantaloupe treat.

Buy a cheap silver platter from your nearby party store, and use fancy cloth napkins and cut glass glasses.  These touches give the appearance of sophistication and diversity, with only a small amount of extra cost.

Theme it All

Another important point is to make sure that you adhere to the theme of the shower if at all possible.  For instance, if the bride has specific colors chosen for her wedding, then you can incorporate those into the bridal shower, and even into the foods served.  You will find quite a few ways to add color to food, including the use of seasonal berries, melons and even edible flowers, as well.  Let your imagination run riot, and have fun!
