How To Bake Perfect Brownies Every Time

When it comes to cooking the perfect brownies, you might consider the possibility that less is more.  Many brownie recipes call for more than a dozen ingredients, but once you are done cooking, no one can tell the difference between your recipe and someone else’s recipe.  If you’re ready to start cooking brownies that will get everyone talking, then it’s time to get back to the basics.

The very best brownie recipe calls for 1 1/2 cups of sugar, 3/4 cup of flour, 3/4 cup of cocoa powder, 3 eggs, 3/4 cup of salted butter, and 3/4 cup of semi-sweet chocolate chips.  If you have the money, be sure to buy the best cocoa and chocolate chips that you can before cooking.  The higher the coco content, the more rich and decadent your brownies will taste.

To start, mix all of the ingredients in a large bowl, except the chocolate chips.  Remember when cooking that kneading flour will release the gluten, so keep a light hand to avoid a cake-like texture.  Add the chocolate chips just before cooking.  If you spread lightly over parchment-lined pans rather than cooking directly on the pan you will be rewarded with a gooey, moist texture.  You also will not have to worry about cleaning up tough brownie batter after cooking.

For a truly decadent finish, drizzle gooey caramel topping in stripes up and down the finished product in horizontal stripes, going from one end of the cake tin to the other.  Then, take a clean blunt knife and trace the very tip in light vertical lines across the top of the brownies at regular intervals, crossing over the caramel stripes and slightly dragging the lines outward.  This will create a very professional looking ‘swirl’ shape as the knife passes through the vertical lines.

Some choose to add a pinch of salt and vanilla before cooking their brownies, and this is entirely up to you.  You can also choose to add nuts, especially if you believe a brownie isn’t a brownie without walnuts.  Just remember not to stir the flour too much, use the best chocolate you can find, and keep it simple when cooking brownies.  You will have the best brownies at every event.
