How to Avoid Sun Damage to Your Skin

Sun damage is a growing concern because it can lead to cancer. By following some easy tips, you can help prevent the onset of serious skin conditions.

Always Wear Sunscreen

Sunscreen products that protect you from UVA and UVB rays are ideal. You should buy beauty products that contain at least an SPF 15. When you are outdoors for a prolonged period of time, you should use a minimum SPF 30 to avoid sun damage.

Use Protective Gear

It is important that you use sun hats and sun-protective clothing that will prevent sun damage. You can also buy a beach umbrella to cover your body from direct sunlight when sitting outside.  Sunglasses are a great option for protecting your delicate eye area, as well.

Hour of the Day

You should avoid being outside between the hours of 10am to 4pm.  Even if it is cloudy outside, the intense rays can still penetrate through the clouds.  You should always wear sunscreen as a precaution.  Cancer-causing UVA rays can easily penetrate water, so even if you’re swimming all day in the pool or ocean, you should still wear waterproof sun block.  Reapply every few hours and wear a swim hat for maximum protection.

Tanning Salons

While you may think that indoor tanning salons are a safe alternative to sunbathing, they can actually be more dangerous.  Tanning booths emit UVA rays from their bulbs that can cause severe sun damage and cancer over time.

You can prevent sun damage when you have a thorough understanding of the negative effects of certain actions. Keeping your skin healthy requires you to stay away from basking in too much sunlight, or you will later pay the price.
