Classic and Simple Rules for Decorating Your Home

No matter how tricky those decorating shows on television make it seem, decorating your home doesn’t have to be difficult. Here are some of the basic rules of decorating your home, no matter what you budget or experience may be.

First, decide what style it is that you’re looking for in each room. For instance, in your living room you may want to feel relaxed, while in your kitchen you may want to feel energized. You may find that you have a more traditional preference in your decorating or possibly are more on the modern edge of the decorating spectrum. Decide what your preferences are throughout your home.

Next, come up with a color palette for each area you’re decorating. After you’ve decided the feel you want in each room, choose a color palette that conveys that feeling. For a more relaxed atmosphere, you may feel that decorating in a palette of light green works best. For a more energized feel, try decorating in oranges or yellows.

Pick classic pieces of furniture that you can enjoy for years. Purchasing great pieces of furniture will be most cost effective in the long run than buying cheap chip-board furniture that will give you a year of use then break and need to be replaced (cough*IKEA*cough).

Find accents such as wall décor, window treatments and area rugs that will pull the room together and add more depth to the design. These can be the best ways to complete the room.

Find great accessories that you love and that are interchangeable. These can be as simple as vases and trinkets, just make sure they say something about your personality to add more fun to the room.
