Attention Hot Dog Lovers! The Lowdown on Pinks in Los Angeles

Pink’s is one of the most famous fast food eateries in Los Angeles, and you will always find a long line of hungry locals and tourists stretching most of the way around the block.  The hot dogs are well worth the wait though, with plenty of messy eats named after celebrities.  Residents and visitors, as well as celebrities, visit Pink’s regularly, and you never know who you might see in line.

Pink’s started serving hot dogs in 1939, founded by Paul and Betty Pink.  It was originally just a pushcart located at the corner of Melrose and La Brea.  The hot dog cart did very well at that time because they served their hot dogs for a mere 10 cents each.  Pink’s did so well that seven years later in 1946, they relocated to 709 North La Brea and built a permanent bricks-and-mortar stand, where they still are to this day.

Many wonder what makes Pink’s worth the (sometimes one hour) wait.  Once you eat here, you will see that not all hot dogs are equal.  They have a variety of gourmet hot dogs – you will be able to find a traditional chili dog, the Guadalajara dog (which features relish, onions, tomato, and sour cream) the mushroom Swiss dog (with mushrooms, mayo, and a slice of Swiss cheese) and yet more options to chew on.  You will have so many options that you might want to check out Pink’s menu online before you get there!

While hot dogs are the most famous food found at Pink’s, the eatery also serves some other delectable treats.  They have hamburgers, as well as desserts, such as coconut and marble cake. The place is such a hot spot that recently, another Pink’s opened in 2010 at Knott’s Berry Farm in Buena Park
