Why Children Love Cat in the Hat Parties and How to Host One

Children of all ages enjoy themed parties, and a Cat in the Hat party is sure to be a hit with your little ones. Cat in the Hat decorations are readily available at many card and party stores.

Children will love a Cat in the Hat cake, which can be as simple or as elaborate as you want it to be. A red and white hat-shaped cake is all that you need to make. If you don’t have time to bake a cake from scratch, bring a picture of your vision to your local cake bakery and they will be happy to help you out.

Treasure hunts are always a hit with children. One suggestion is to have children look for little red and white paper hats (or drawings of hats) outdoors or indoors, and award a prize to the child who finds the most. Children also love memory games, so you may want to have them memorize all the items on a tray for one minute, and award a stuffed Cat in the Hat to the one who remembers the most. Just make sure all of the children go home with one party favor.

All children love having their face painted, so be sure to have face paint readily available on party day. Just paint whiskers on the children, give them each a bow-tie and striped hat, and watch the excitement begin. You can also buy headbands with cat ears at most novelty stores.

Mylar balloons, napkins, plates, cups, and other goodies in the Cat in the Hat theme will add to the adventure. Of course, you’ll have to make sure to read the book by Dr. Seuss at least once to mark the occasion, or put on a DVD of the recent film adaptation starring Mike Myers. If you’re feeling very adventurous, you could even rent a Cat in the Hat costume or make your own. Children would love to sit on the Cat in the Hat’s lap for a photo!
