Three Excellent Ideas for a Night of Family Fun

Family fun nights are an important part of bonding and keeping your family ties strong and nurturing. These days, with parents and children having so many daily responsibilities and distractions, it is more important than ever to stake out the time for a family fun nights filled with activities that the entire family will enjoy. Here are three exciting ideas that will make your family fun nights even more memorable.

Try a new restaurant together

All too often, families find themselves settling down into the routine of eating separately or sitting in front of the television in silence during dinner. But sitting around a table together and enjoying food and conversation is a great way for families to bond and to talk about important happenings in each other’s lives. If you cook the meal together you’ll bond even more. Adults can cook the main meal and let the kids prepare whatever desert they want to eat – try teaching them to make a cake or a desert bread such as banana nut bread for desert.  Family fun nights are a great time to decide as a family on a new restaurant to try out together. You can try out new types of cuisine, trade dishes, and share food and laughter together.

Give game night a fun twist

Once upon a time family fun nights consisted of playing board games together. While board games are still a fantastic idea for family fun nights, why not give your family fun nights a more modern twist? Video games have come a long way since the 80’s days of ‘Street Fighter’ – you can now get more family-friendly, PC games what are actually healthier to play than board games, as they require you to get up and move about! There are many video games that your kids love that you can enjoy with them as part of family fun night. Try a game like Guitar Hero or Rock Band and make music together as a family. Or, test your skills with a family fun night video game like Jeopardy or Wheel of Fortune. If you own a Wii system the kids may have already roped you into playing a game of Wii tennis or boxing with them. Wii is the ‘healthy’ option when it comes to video games, as the controller is motion activated and you have to bat, bowl, swim or kick in real life to make your ‘character’ on the screen do the same!

Get sporty!

Outdoor family activities are a great way to stay healthy and to connect as a family. If you little ones are athletically inclined, plan a family fun night down at your local tennis courts taking turns playing singles or playing doubles. Most courts will have lights that stay on until 10 or 11 at night even in the winter time. Or go for a family bike ride together if you live near a park or safe cycling area. Cycling is a great way to build your family’s fitness, and gives you a great chance to chat with them as you cycle along.

Remember that whatever you do, family fun nights are about building lasting bonds, laughing together, and becoming closer as a family. As long as everyone is having a great time, your family fun night will be a success.
