Using a good facial cleanser is an important part of your beauty and personal care regimen, but many can be expensive and even harmful to your skin in the long term. Perfumed chemical cleansers are often harsh and can cause irritation and damage, causing acne and rosacea. However, it is easy to make a decent face cleanser at home, for a fraction of the cost of those sold at the beauty supply store.
Oatmeal Scrub
One of the most effective and gentle face cleansers is an oatmeal scrub. You can combine a half cup of oatmeal with two tablespoons of plain yogurt, and mix them together. Smooth this mixture over your face and let it set for about 10 minutes before rinsing it off.
Coconut Oil Treat
Another all-natural face cleanser can be made from coconut oil. Simply add three teaspoons of coconut oil, a teaspoon of olive oil, a teaspoon of glycerin and two teaspoons of water in a double boiler or small stove-top pan. Heat until all the ingredients are melted and then whisk them together for about five minutes. Cool this mixture and then store it in a jar for later use.
Cream of Oatmeal
You can make a creamy oatmeal face cleanser with a half-cup of oatmeal and two tablespoons of heavy cream. Using a blender, grind the oatmeal fine and then mix it with the cream. Smooth this over your face and let it sit for 10 minutes. Rinse off well and pat dry.
These natural face cleaners will help you keep your face clean and healthy. As a note, these products do not foam, as there are no chemical surfactants added to create a lather. Surfactants can actually be very harsh, so foaming cleansers are not always the best option for your face.
