Learn How to Have Family Fun in Your Backyard

Nowadays, parents easily spend $100 driving around town in just a weekend, trying to occupy their children with movies, amusement parks and malls.  Staple activities from our own childhoods like playing sports and drawing on the sidewalk with chalk are almost non-existent, but you can revive some old-fashioned fun with a little creativity in your own backyard.

One of the most traditional options when playing in your backyard is to play ball.  For different families, this can have different meanings.  You might enjoy an evening of tossing a baseball, or playing a game of touch football.  Soccer is also becoming a popular option for fun backyard family activities.  Venture even further with archery or dartboards.

If you want to look into rewarding family activities, gardening is a great way to go.  This is a terrific way to have fun, as well as to teach about self-reliance, responsibility and nutrition.  If you choose to grow veggies, you can ensure that your family will eat healthier and is more excited about the nutrients they eat.

Another option, which is particularly good if you have young children, is to check into family activities like oversized checkers or lawn darts.  These can be great fun for all ages, but are very well suited to younger children.

For a family activity that appeals to all ages, try building a fort.  You can buy lumber and nails to do this on your own, or you can build temporary forts with some old sheets and bedclothes, as well.  This activity can stretch over several weekends, and will influence family bonding and a bit of imagination.
