Why it is Important to write to Your Deployed Soldier Regularly

When you have a deployed soldier in your family, it can be easy to forget to keep them updated on all of the little things that are happening back home.  Life is hectic, and when phone calls happen, it can be hard to think of everything when you are just happy to hear their voice.

For a soldier, though, it is different.  Life away from home in the military can be very stressful, especially with the threat of war and violence constantly present.  The smallest things come to mean so much, and even a photo of their familiar life back home can ease their stress.

Writing a letter to the soldier in your life is always an excellent idea.  Keeping them up to date on life back home can make life in a foreign country a lot less overwhelming and can offer great comfort on the field of battle.  Ensuring that you write frequently to remind your family member that he or she is loved and missed is very important, and it can make a real difference.

If you do start writing letters, it is important to keep it up. Your soldier will look forward to your weekly or monthly letters, and may miss them terribly or become depressed if they stop with no warning.

While a family letter can be a wonderful way to keep up, a great idea is to allow each family member to write a letter of their own.  You can put all the letters in one bundle and take them to the post office along with photos or small gifts.  This can help kids better keep in contact with a parent or sibling, and offers your soldier the chance to see family events through the eyes of every family member.

Taking the time to write a letter to your soldier is a wonderful habit to start.  When you take the time to do this, it can really make their life a lot brighter.
