Restaurant Business News Shows Consumers Eat Less Seafood

Running a restaurant is no easy task with today’s economy. This is why restaurant business news is essential for the entrepreneur. It’s even interesting for the person who regularly eats at restaurants. It’s no surprise that much of the business news for restaurants this fall is focusing on seafood.

With the major oil spill off the Gulf Coast in April, many restaurants were worried that their seafood supplies would be interrupted. Business news articles detail how local restaurants are having trouble getting some local seafood. Major chains, though, often bring their supplies in from around the world. These chains aren’t having problems at all.

Restaurant business news shows that Americans are eating less seafood than they did last year. Consumption is only down 1.25%, though. Business news doesn’t count this as a huge loss, especially considering the events of the spring.

The National Fisheries Institute shows that shrimp is still the most popular seafood for Americans to eat. The business news release detailing seafood consumption showed that canned tuna, salmon, Pollock, catfish, clams, and cod are all high on the seafood consumption list, as well.

The National Fisheries Institute thinks that business news for restaurants may improve when the government releases the next edition of its food pyramid guidelines. Many Americans don’t get enough of the essential fats found in seafood. Because of this, the government’s health agencies are going to start stressing seafood consumption for Americans of all ages.

This seafood emphasis could spell great business news for seafood businesses. NFI expects that the emphasis will cause seafood consumption to rise over the next year or so.
