National Business News Unemployment Makes Detroit Most Stressful City

Recently, much national business news has been focused on unemployment. With the national unemployment rate at about 9%, this is not a huge surprise. Everyone knows unemployment can be stressful. What they may not realize is that high unemployment can make a city an incredibly stressful place to live.

Recent business news tells that a study of fifty of America’s largest metro areas shows unemployment is a high stress-causing factor for an entire town or metro area. High unemployment in Detroit makes it hit the top of the list as America’s most stressful city.

It’s not surprising, considering how many people in this city worked in the auto industry. Business news shows that this industry was hit particularly hard with the economic crisis. Though American auto makers are starting to get back on their feet, they’re still not doing much hiring. Business news everywhere says that hiring isn’t likely to start up again any time soon, either.

This business news on stressful places to live may influence the choices of those who are still mobile enough to find jobs around the country. According to this business news, other factors that make Detroit stressful include high poverty, crime rates and lack of sunshine. Other stressful cities in the business news report include New York, Los Angeles, Riverside, and St. Louis.

Not everyone can take this business news to heart and move away from stressful cities. If you’re in a stressful situation with unemployment or these other factors, learn to deal with your stress so it’s more manageable. Get enough exercise and as much rest as possible. Avoid people and places that may encourage you to blow your remaining cash on escapist vices like alcohol or scratch-cards. Go to the movies and watch a non-depressing film if you want a complete escape from reality for a few hours. Save any money you can and put it away for a rainy day so that unemployment worries about the future become less stressful.
