Why We Care About Prince William and the Royal Wedding

Whenever Prince William announced his engagement to Kate Middleton, the entire world took notice.  Here in the United States, magazines, websites, and newspapers alike were buzzing with rumors and facts about the royal wedding and about the couple.  So why is the British royal wedding such a big media event, and why do people seem to care so much?

There are numerous reasons why Americans are so caught up in the royal wedding.  One thing is that people have simply always been fascinated with royalty.  As kids, many of us dream of being princes and princesses and living their lives, but very few people in the world ever get to experience such a thing.  Natural curiosity and fascination certainly helps to make the royal wedding more popular.

A bigger part of it, however, is the fact that Prince William had a mother whom the world truly loved.  Princess Diana was a media darling and an incredible human being, and many remember the royal wedding when she married Prince Charles.  For many, Prince William is a reminder of all that people loved about Diana, especially since he closely resembles her both in appearance and in his dedication to helping others.

The royal wedding is certain to be a huge event, and it is certain to draw unprecedented media attention.  No matter your reasons for watching, it is likely to be one of those events that you will always remember where you were when it happened.  Events like this happen very rarely, and Americans are certainly captivated by this upcoming union.
