Top 5 Inspirational Movies About Being a Dad

If you’re a dad, don’t think that all the movie choices out there about parenting are tear-jerkers OR romantic comedies.  Some of the best movies about being a father may surprise you.

Here are our Top 5 movie rental picks for Father’s Day viewing:

1. “Star Wars: The Entire Original Trilogy”

Darth Vader wasn’t a model dad, but even his name “Vader” was derived from the German word for “father.”  Luke wins back his dad by proving himself to be just, honorable and strong.  In a fit of fatherly pride, Vader ends a galactic tyranny to save his son.  This is epic and a great movie to watch for fathers and sons that want to bond.

2. “Life is Beautiful” (1997)

A dad and his son in a Nazi concentration camp struggle to survive.  This dad can’t save the day due to his own incarceration, but the inspiration lies in the fact that he manages to do everything he can to care for his son and save the boy’s sanity, despite the horrific nature of the situation.

3. “Finding Nemo” (2003)

At the root of it, this movie is about how far a dad will go for his son.  Any devoted father will find inspiration in this simple, but very well-written animated movie.

4. “The Pursuit of Happiness” (2006)

Like “Life is Beautiful,” this one’s a movie about a dad who will do everything for his son, even if he has nothing to do it with.  A touching portrayal of what it means to be a loving father.

5. “Father of the Bride” (1991)

It has Steve Martin in it, so it’s already good.  Comical, touching and a ton of fun, this is a great movie if you want to laugh at the sometimes difficult role of being a dad and letting your children grow up.
