Great Gifts for Your Mother in Law

A mother in law is one of the hardest people to shop for, simply because we always try so hard to impress.  Today, we will look at some great gifts you can offer your mother in law this holiday season to show that you truly understand her despite your differences.

The one thing that any mother wants more than anything else is quality time with her children.  A great gift for your mother in law this Christmas would be to give her a gift card for something that she really enjoys doing, and give another gift card to her child.  Let her spend the day with her son or daughter laughing, reminiscing, and doing whatever recreational activities they used to enjoy doing together.  She really will appreciate the thoughtfulness of this gift.

If you want to go the more traditional route, consider a gift subscription to her favorite newspaper or magazine.  If she is a bit more modern, get her a subscription to a game website like Pogo, or an iTunes gift card so she can download all her favorite songs.

If she has a lot of female friends and enjoys going out, give her a ‘girls night out’ gift card for her and two friends to go see a musical, a play or a movie.  Another wonderful gift is a tactfully beauty or health-related gift card, such as a day at the spa, a manicure/ pedicure voucher, or a gift card for her favorite hair salon to get a cut and color. You can find out her preferences to her spouse – don’t guess and go generic on the hairdresser option, as most women have a single trusted hairdresser they use and won’t let anyone else touch their hair.

Of course, keeping in touch with her children is important to any mother, so a great gift could also be something like a new cell phone to replace that outdated brick she carries around in her purse, or even a web-cam and a Skype account.  Offering the gift of communication is really wonderful.

Last, if you live far from your mother in law, consider making a photo album from the last year of your life.  Include pictures of your spouse and the kids alike, and you’ll give her the impression that she is sharing in all of your big moments.
