The Ugly Side Effects of Laser Hair Removal

In the 90s there was electrolysis.  Today, your favorite Desperate Housewife is using laser hair removal. Although it’s a costly procedure, about $100 each visit, its benefits include permanent hair removal and smoother skin.  It may be easier than long-term waxing and shaving, but it still comes with a handful of side effects.

Although you may be excited to remove any unruly, coarse hair, your next challenge will be dealing with some unhappy skin after the procedure.   Try to be sensitive to your skin’s inflamed attitude if it begins to swell, itch, and even discolor.  Although this may be irritating, it shouldn’t last any longer than three days.  If your skin is extremely mad at you, you’ll experience burning, discoloration, flares of acne, scabs, and possible infection.

Icing the affected area will also help decrease any irritation, along with applying medicated creams.  Consult your physician if your temperamental skin refuses to calm down within four days.

All of your attention may be on your skin during the procedure, but it’s important to remember protection on your eyes.  Eye damage is surprisingly the largest risk during the laser hair removal and too many participants suffer the harmful effects of having a laser nearby.

Side effects are common with any beauty treatment and for many women the temporary effects are worthwhile and safe enough to go through with laser hair treatment.  Scabby skin and inflammation may be irritating, but for many it’s merely a small hurdle to throwing out those old razors and showing off some stubble-free stems.
