To Do List For In Laws and Family to Help the New Mom

When you have a baby, the daily task list that you once tackled in hours can grow to alarming proportions. Besides the bewildering number of new things you now need to do to look after your baby,  there’s all the old stuff you used to do to just look after yourself and (if he’s lucky) your husband. It’s no wonder that new Moms are always on the verge of exhaustion.

But there is help at hand – your family. If you’re going to get ahead, the simple fact is that you’re going to have to bite the bullet and assign your family and in-laws a special task list to really get stuff done.

What can you reasonably put on such a task list? Well, there are ten things that any new mom can avoid doing on her own because her family and in-laws are both able and experienced at them already.

#10: The first task is the least likable, and that is the mountains of laundry that appear with the new baby!

#9: Another task that not many find appealing is the tackling of the regular household cleaning, and this is especially true for homes with young children and pets.

#8: Additionally, the maintenance of the house and yard doesn’t slow down when a new baby comes, so new dads might need help with this too.

#7: The in-laws, however can get a chance to bond with younger kids if their task list includes child care. So don’t be afraid to ask.

#6: There will also be the need to add pet care and regular visits to the pet supply store to the task list, if the house has dogs or cats.

#5: Naturally, all of these people and animals will need feeding throughout the days following the baby’s arrival, and a great task to assign someone is cooking duty.

#4: A new Mom will likely be sore in the days and weeks following the delivery, so taking out the trash and vacuuming is a job that will need to be reassigned.

#3: Grocery shopping with baby is out until your child has settled down into a routine and you can be sure he or she won’t scream the whole way around the grocery store. Pick someone you trust to help keep your fridge filled with basics.

#2: Whoever in your family lives nearest the Post Office in your community can be in charge of picking up and mailing your packages and letters.

#1: Finally, a new mom will need lots of water, some time to sleep in a few mornings, and even a bit of advice or guidance. While these might seem like odd items for a task list, they are essential to a healthy transition from the hospital to home.
