How Walking as a Couple Can Strengthen Marriage

Often, it is hard to maintain a strong marriage without taking steps to actively build up the bonds for a couple. Whether your marriage is struggling or you simply want to know steps you can take to keep the two of your from drifting apart, here is something to consider. You can actually take literal steps by walking together as a couple. Here’s why.

Often, a marriage is greatly starved for time. When both members of a couple work full time and there are other commitments like children, church, groups, volunteer work, or any other activities that take time away from your personal lives, it can be hard for a couple to spend time together. When the two of you set aside 30 minutes each day or each week for walking together, you are setting aside time for your marriage.

It is the perfect time to just spend time together talking, laughing, or getting to know each other again. This walking time will be away from those outside forces that fight for your attention, and it will be just the two of you. You can explore your local area, get to know your neighbors, and discover new eateries, bars and shops that you may have never spotted from the cocooned comfort of your car.

Walking on the treadmill at the gym will give you these health benefits, but will not provide the thrill of adventure and discovery that local walking can bring.

In addition, walking has a positive effect on the body, building healthier muscles and a stronger heart. Remaining healthy and not bringing illness into a marriage is also a great way to avoid stress on it. Bring the family dog and give him or her some great exercise, too.

Walking is an excellent activity that will lower your stress, and give you some much needed bonding time…and some exercise to boot!
