How Green Tea May Help Prevent Cancer

Cancer prevention programs have helped people learn the health dangers of smoking and even of eating red meat, but you have to remember that there are many types of cancer than just lung cancer and colon cancer. Even with fewer people smoking, there are more people with the disease today than ever before. Cancer prevention is important, and it takes more work than just avoiding cigarettes and steak.

One of the methods of cancer prevention that some people are turning to is tea. Green tea in particular is supposed to be one of the best types of tea for cancer prevention because it has so many wonderful natural cancer-fighting agents in it. For example, green tea has antioxidants that destroy free radicals in the body. These free radicals have been linked to certain types of cancer.

Green tea also helps to eliminate abnormal growth in cells that can cause cancer. Though tea is certainly not a cure, it may very well help in cancer prevention.

You can drink the green tea in its natural form, or you can buy pills with green tea extract from any good vitamin store.  If you don’t like the taste of plain green tea (which can have a slightly bitter aftertaste), try adding a squeeze of fresh lemon juice and a third of a teaspoonful of honey. This will balance out the acidity. (The honey should be substituted for an artificial sweetener if you drink a lot of green tea, as honey can give you dental cavities).

While drinking green tea is not going to be a complete form of cancer prevention on its own, it never hurts to try some of these naturalistic, herbal treatments. The more you start doing for cancer prevention now, the less likely you will be to develop the disease later in life. So drink up!
