How to Build a Wooden Bird House

Are you looking for a great family project you can do with your kids that will provide entertainment for years to come?  A simple bird house can be a great project.  You and your little ones will enjoy building it, and you will all be able to enjoy watching birds nest in the bird house for as long as it remains in your yard.

All you will need is five pieces of equally sized wood, large enough to provide room to create a nest inside the bird house (12 inches high and wide should be more than sufficient).  If you are buying the wood from a hardware store, you can ask that one piece have a hole drilled in that is large enough for the birds to enter.  You will also need a slightly larger piece to put on the top as a roof.

Two dozen screws and a screwdriver are needed, and some wood glue, as well as any paint or decorations you would like to add to the bird house.

Take one piece of wood and designate it as the base of the bird house.  Place one of the flat pieces of wood along the back edge and use two screws to secure it into place from beneath.  You can also opt to use wood glue to secure it together, or simply to create a seal around the joint where the pieces meet.

Do the same for the two sides, then attach the front in the same manner.  Attach the larger piece to the top of the bird house by screwing it into the other boards and creating a glue seal.

Paint the bird house and glue on any decorations you wish, and enjoy the beauty of your family project.
