The Top 5 Most Famous Recording Studios in the U.S.

From big names to big one-hit wonders, recording studios throughout the United States are known for the artists they have played host to throughout their histories.  What you may not realize is that some of these locations have become famous because of a certain famous artist who once recorded there.

If you are a musician and you want to record an album in the same recording studio as your musical heroes, try these studios for some true star power.

1. The Record Plant: One of the biggest in New York City, it produced music from John Lennon to Bruce Springsteen and Jimi Hendrix.

2. Hitsville USA:  This is the Motown studio, as it was Berry Gordy’s studio ‘back in the day.’  It is in Detroit and helped boost the careers of greats, such as Marvin Gaye, The Jackson Five and Diana Ross.

3. Chess: You will find this big studio name in Chicago.  It helped to produce the music of artists such as Willie Dixon, Etta James and Chuck Berry.

4. Sunset Sound: This studio is right on Sunset Blvd in Hollywood.  It produced music from The Rolling Stones, Fleetwood Mac, the Beach Boys and Elton John.

5. Sun: This Memphis, Tennessee-based studio helped product Roy Orbison, Johnny Cash and Elvis Presley.

These popular recording studios may not be as well known by name as the groups they helped to make it to the top, but they are famous in their own right!
