Tips and Techniques for Raising a Happy Indoor Cat

If you have an indoor cat, you have to do a bit more than the average cat owner in order to keep your pet happy.  Unhappy cats can develop health issues and can even become destructive and disruptive.  If you are worried that your indoor cat isn’t as happy as it should be, the following tips can help you ensure that this is no longer the case.

A great tip for anyone with an indoor cat is to leash train them.  When your cat learns how to walk properly with a leash and harness, you will be able to take them outside to play and explore each day.  If this is not possible, a screened in porch or even a window box can let your cat enjoy the sights and sounds of the outdoors without all of the risks.

An indoor cat also needs lots of stimulation.  Interactive toys that let you play together are excellent choices, and providing plenty of bells, toy mice, and other entertaining items can keep your cat playing and happy.  Paper bags and cardboard boxes are favored among indoor cats, and make very inexpensive playthings.

If you are looking to keep your indoor cat entertained while you are at work or away from home, you may also want to purchase special DVDs.  These videos are created especially for cats and offer footage of birds and the like.

No matter which tip you follow, giving your indoor cat more entertainment will make it much easier to ensure their happiness.
