How to Start a Wine Tasting Business in a Few Hours A Week

A wine tasting business can be a fun way for you to earn some extra money in just a few hours a week.  Who doesn’t love wine?  If you are a fan yourself and have basic knowledge of all the different flavors, vintages and varieties, this can be a great way to meet people, share your knowledge, and have a lot of fun in the process.

The first thing you will need to do is prepare a brochure for advertising.  Seek out opportunities to get the word out about your business.  Take out an ad in the local paper, stop by your local country club and drop off some home-printed fliers. Set up a website if you know how to.  When you visit clubs, be sure to speak to the manager and leave a copy of your materials.

Look into the competition when you are starting out so you can set your prices to something appropriate.  Your business needs to have rates that are competitive; if you set them too low or too high, you will lose business by giving customers the impression that you are an amateur.

It is definitely a good idea to plan out some tasting menus for your business in advance.  One way to build an interesting set of wine (most often, a wine tasting offers five varieties) is to choose one type of grape and offer five wines from different regions, or to choose one wine growing region and select several different types of grapes so you can explore their differences.

Be sure to research the prices of the wines you are suggesting, and select some backup options in different price ranges.  The host, whose responsibility it is to provide the wine, may want to adjust the menu somewhat depending on the budget of visitors.
