How Drinking More Water Can Change Your Life, One Glass at a Time

When we sit down to a meal, many of us reach for a soda can or a cup of coffee, but water is so much better for our nutrition and for our overall health.

Maybe the most health-conscious reason to drink water with your dinner instead of a sugary beverage is because water promotes weight loss and increases absorption of nutrition. Water fills you up faster, so if you’re taking sips of your water before and during your meal, you’re likely to eat less, saving you calories and helping you maintain or lose weight.

While nutrition is always important, so is how you feel on a daily basis. When our bodies don’t get enough water, we get dehydrated. You might think drinking soda during a meal quenches your thirst but you’re bound to be thirsty shortly after. This is because sodas such as Coke or Pepsi contain caffeine, which is a diuretic, meaning that it actually makes your body lose water quicker. In order words, you’ll be running to the restroom a lot more often if you drink soda instead of the exact same amount of water.

Soda also contains a lot of sugar – bad for the teeth and hazardous to your natural blood sugar levels. ‘No-Sugar’ versions such as Coke Zero or Diet Pepsi contains aspartame, a non-nutritive chemical sweetener. Research has also shown a proven correlation in lower bone density in young girls who drank a  lot of Pepsi and other sodas. The study indicates that sodas leach important minerals from the bones over the years, leaving heavy soda drinkers at risk of fractures later on in life.

Drinking plain water also helps to extract toxins from your body. If you’re worried about keeping your stomach, kidneys and liver in tip-top condition, look no further than a glass of water to flush out your system.

Water is also very good for your skin. Sugary drinks and greasy foods promote acne but water can produce a beautiful glow and softer, more hydrated skin. Yes, it’s true – people who drink enough water actually have fewer wrinkles!

If you’re looking to maintain the best health, you should look no further than a simple glass of water with your meal. You won’t regret it, and it will certainly keep the doctor away!
