Japanese Shirataki Noodles a Wonderful Low Carb Option

One of the most challenging parts about going on a diet and losing weight is eliminating all of those carbohydrates.  However, one of the latest imports from Japan can help to satisfy your cravings without adding all of those extra carbohydrates.  Shirataki noodles are a low calorie, thin type of noodle that just happens to be very low in carbohydrates.

The noodles, made from the konjac plant, are traditional Japanese noodles that have a gelatinous appearance.  In addition to being a low carbohydrate alternative, shirataki noodles also happen to be high in water soluble fiber.  On their own, you will find that the shirataki noodles have very little flavor.  It’s important to add your own spices and flavors to make them more appetizing.  But this, of course, is a big part of Japanese cuisine.

Shirataki noodles are available in many U.S. health food stores and grocery stores alike today because they are gaining popularity.  You can find the dry version as well as the wet version, which is already packed in water.  Some of the shirataki noodles sold in the United States actually have no carbohydrates.  The tofu-based noodles have only a small amount of carbohydrates.  The shirataki noodles also happen to be gluten-free.

If you are looking for a great addition to your diet, and you don’t want to add more carbohydrates, the shirataki noodles are an excellent option.  They are easy to prepare, easy to find and you will be able to use these noodles in a variety of different dishes, including soups.
