How to Level Your Refrigerator

Is your flooring uneven?  Do you find that your refrigerator doors do not seal properly or that they are not opening and closing correctly?  Is the water from your defrost cycle draining out of your refrigerator?  The problem may be in the balance of the appliance. Let’s look at how a few home repair tips can help you fix it.

When many people think of home repair, they think of contractors and hard work.  Leveling your refrigerator is an easy home repair project to accomplish on your own.  All you really need is a level and a pair of pliers or a wrench.  The first thing to do for this home repair project is to place the level on top of your fridge facing from side to side.  Be certain not to place it on the door.  Do the same thing with the level facing front to back.

When you know which side of your refrigerator is uneven, use your wrench or pliers to turn the bolts along the leveling feet.  This will enable the feet to be raised or lowered.  You may need to have a strong person slightly lift the fridge as you do this if you find the bolts won’t turn. Simply turn the right feet until the level shows that everything is even.  That is really all that there is to this home repair project.

It takes only a few minutes to accomplish, and it can solve or prevent a number of problems.  When your refrigerator isn’t behaving as it should, taking the time to make it level can often be the only remedy you need.
