Save Space in Your Garage With These 5 Simple Tips

Saving space in the garage is important if you expect to be able to get your car in at night. Many people use the garage for storage space and find that they can’t even get their car inside! Cars left outside the garage at night are more vulnerable to break-ins and damage, so look at any effort you put into clearing out the garage as in investment in your car. Here are five tips to help you reclaim your space.

First, you should clear the garage of any items that you don’t plan to use. Give them to the thrift store or sell them. When you clear your garage of the things that you don’t use, you will find that you have much more space than you imagined.

Shelving along the sides of the garage is useful for stacking boxes that you might have lying around the place. When you store and stack upward, you have much more space on the floor. You can get stacking boxes or shelves at any hardware or DIY store.

You can consider hanging many of the items that you have stored in your garage. Make sure that you have strong hooks for the garage when you attach them to the walls, and don’t put more than the recommended weight on the hooks. Utilizing the walls will give you much more floor space.

Consider adding an overhead storage space in the garage. You can build one yourself or hire someone to do it for you. Place lightweight items in the overhead storage, such as wrapping paper, extra wires, and such. Many garages have an attic, so buy some boards and build yourself a crawl space up there to keep your old luggage, patio furniture, and other unused items.

Lastly, you might want to consider folding tables if you work in the garage on the weekends. A folding table can be removed when not in use, and you will be able to make much better use of the space.
