How to Clean Jewelry For Free With Bathroom Products

Rather than spending a fortune on specialized cleaning products to clean your jewelry, you can find some simple bathroom items that can do a great job without having to spend a fortune at the jewelers.  Here are 10 great ways that you can clean your jewelry and save some money.

– Toothpaste is great to use for brushing silver.  Leave toothpaste on the jewelry for about an hour and then rub it away with a soft cloth.

– To clean your diamond jewelry, you can also use toothpaste.  Use an old toothbrush and rub the toothpaste (no water) onto the diamond.  Rinse, dry and see how much cleaner it looks.

– Once again, toothpaste comes through as a great boon to your jewelry.  If you have scratches on the face of your watch, you can apply a bit of toothpaste and rub it off with a soft cloth.

– Dirty watchbands can also be cleaned with toothpaste.  If your watch isn’t waterproof, you have to be careful that you don’t get it wet when you rinse the watchband.

– You can also remove scratches from a plastic watch face with a cotton swab and some nail polish remover.

– Another way to clean diamonds is with denture cleaning tablets.  Drop the diamond jewelry into some water, along with one of these fizzing tablets, and it will clean your diamond jewelry.

– Soak your tarnished jewelry in a glass of water and two antacids for two minutes.  Take the jewelry out and dry it off.

– Use white or clear dental floss to restring a beaded necklace.  (Nobody will know, and it’s super-strong and breakage-resistant!)

– To untangle a knotted chain, you can lay the chain flat, apply a drop of baby oil, and use sewing needles to work into the knot and loosen it.

– If your rings cause discoloration on your fingers, you can apply a thin coat of clear nail polish to the inside of the band.  This works well on cheap forms of jewelry, such as costume jewelry.  The same works great if you have a nickel allergy.  Reapply every few months if you wear the jewelry a lot for maximum itch-free benefit!
