How to Remove Latex Paint From a Variety of Surfaces in Your Home

Painting the house can be a chore that most people will do anything to avoid. When you splatter some of that paint onto other items in your house, you can have a big cleanup job on your hands. Before you start painting, it is a good idea to make sure that you know how to remove latex paint from a number of different surfaces. These tips should help you if you have a painting accident…

To remove latex paint from wood is quite easy. If you see the paint splatter, remove it with a damp cloth right away. If the paint has had time to dry, use a paint scraper (or other similar non-sharp instrument such as the back of a blunt knife) to remove the latex paint carefully, and then wash the area with warm soapy water. Scrub it with a mildly abrasive sponge or scouring pad to remove any residue.

If you have to remove latex paint from a vinyl floor, start by wiping up as much of the paint as you can right away. If the paint dried already, use a compress with rubbing alcohol and hold it to the area for a few minutes. You can then wipe it up to remove the latex paint.

To remove latex paint from a stone floor, you can use a mixture of water and detergent. Scrub the floor with a soft brush or a Brillo pad, and the paint should dilute and come away easily. Rinse the area with water.

Whenever you are painting, make sure that you use drop cloths on the floor and furnishings so you do not have to worry about having to remove spatters of latex paint.
