How to Save Water in the Shower

Conserving resources is not only a great way to save money, but it’s also a wonderful way to contribute to a cleaner environment.  One resource that is wasted in large quantities in almost every home is water.  Saving water in the shower can cut your water bill, and literally make the world a better place.  Our precious resources are dwindling, so it’s important to find ways to save water in the shower.

Fit a Low Flow Shower Head

One of the most efficient ways to save water in the shower is with a low flow shower head.  These shower heads are readily available at most home improvement stores, and will cut back the water flow dramatically every time you shower.  Depending on your current flow, you could save between two and four gallons of water every time you shower.

Use a Shower Timer

Another easy way to cut back on water use when you shower is by using a shower timer.  This nifty device is a great way to remind everyone in the household to avoid extra long showers.  With a timer, you are reminded to keep your shower to a reasonable amount of time and not to linger longer than it takes to fully wash, which will really conserve water.

Shampoo Every Other Day

One hygiene-related tip that can decrease shower time is to apply shampoo every other time you shower.  Not every time.  Your hair is more manageable and healthier if you don’t shampoo every day, as you’re not constantly stripping away your own natural oils.  Plus, it’s a great way to save water when you shower.   Using a leave-in conditioner from the drugstore will also help eliminate time in the shower and cut back on water usage.

It’s easy to save water when showering and impact not only your budget, but also the environment.
